Yeah so remember when I posted !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! about buying a 735i parts car for a manual swap?

Well my ZF 4HP22 decided to blow the A-pack out tonight. For those of you that don't know, the A-pack is the forward clutch pack, without it all you have is reverse. Well, all I have is reverse. So now I'm working on making this manual swap a reality. The guy who was going to split the car with me said he'd pull the trans and all the accessories for me and I could come pick it up.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I'm going to get the car towed to my brothers tomorrow and sometime this week rip the trans out. We'll see how everything goes. I might rebuild the 4HP22 for now until I get the manual stuff.

For relevance here is my car with clear corners today, when the trans still worked.

I'd need an E32 for that, the 1980's was a time of cocaine

That sucks. Now I know, never buy a German car with an automatic.

I will say I am a bit disappointed. I think the only parts of the trans that were replaced recently was the A pack, the rest I believe is factory with 150k miles on it.

Seems to me that ford transmissions can take a bit more abuse (well, some). My 4R75W and E40D have never given me a lick of trouble. Hell, my E40D in my bronco has overheated twice to the point that the front pump seal was spitting ATF out. Once it cools off, it seals itself back up and keeps on truckin!

so by that logic, thanks to Caddy famous V8-6-4 engine, i should never buy a American car with a V8?

shit goes wrong. it sucks. but ONE incident with a lower-mile car doesn't justify that.

Good point. An interesting story, I was staying in a motel in the Detroit area and went to the bar to have a beer. There were 2 really drunk guys at the bar. I started talking to them and they told me they were on some kind of break from a Cadillac engine plant and they had an hour and a half to kill before returning to work. They said many of the workers drank through their shift. I always wondered if they were assembling the 8-6-4 engines.
